Meditation and Mindfulness

Meditation and mindfulness are closely related, but they’re not exactly the same thing. Think of meditation as the practice, and mindfulness as the skill that grows from that practice.

Meditation is when you intentionally set aside time to train your attention — maybe by sitting quietly and feeling your breath, noticing your thoughts, or observing your body. It’s structured. It’s like going to the gym for your mind.

Mindfulness is what that training develops. It’s the ability to be present and aware in your daily life — noticing what you’re feeling, thinking, and doing in the moment, without getting lost in it or overwhelmed by it.

So during meditation, you practice returning your attention again and again. Then, during the rest of your day, mindfulness shows up when you pause before reacting, when you notice stress early, or when you’re fully present in a conversation.

In simple terms: meditation is the training time — mindfulness is how you live the rest of your day.
